I am an astronomer

Been looking for clear skies

Without a glow on the skyline

The light seems to follow

Been running from the light

All of my life

There was a time when I could see

Almost everything

From the bottom of the garden

Nowadays I look through a clouded haze

Throws a curtain across the stars

Distant galaxies kept away from me

And a sky full of possibilities

Alone with the stars

I'm searching through galaxies

Where someone across an infinite space

Is staring at me

There's too much light in the world

Do I need to see 

Neon signs in a cafe that's closed

Or a window full of dull clothes

I am an astronomer

Been looking for clear skies

Distant cars on a motorway

Sent to toture me

Pull me from this reverie

​

I move from house to house

To find a clear skyline

But everywhere I go

Been running from the light

Some new factory

Some refinery

And once again the sky orange

Leave me alone with the stars

And a sky full of possibilities
