A HEART IN WINTER

I’m building violins
I shape the wood, tune the strings
Find comfort in little things

I’m building violins
I go for hours without talking
Sitting and waiting

And when she comes in
And she sees me
Building this fragile thing
She thinks I am the same

But a heart in winter is already cold
Doesn’t feel the first fall of snow

Snow

I’m building violins
71 parts and counting

I collect old violins
The oldest coats of varnish you can see
The colour hasn’t changed

And when I walk in
And she plays her violin
Her heart is aching
But I don’t feel a thing

And when I leave the room
The tension leaves with me
And her playing falters slightly

A heart in winter is already cold
Doesn’t feel the first fall of snow

Heart in winter is already cold
Doesn’t feel the first fall of snow

I’m building violins
I touch your face
Stretch the skin
Find flaws in everything

If I was alone with you I would tell you
If I was alone with you I would show you

A heart in winter is already cold
Doesn’t feel the first fall of snow

Heart in winter is already cold
Doesn’t feel the first fall of snow

Heart in winter
Already cold
Little house in the woods
Gathering snow

Heart in winter
Growing old
Fragile thing

Waiting for spring.
